    Cold water pressure washers are ideal for removing dirt on most any surface. However, if you are cleaning surfaces that have grease or oil on them, hot water is a must.

    PSI and GPM are both equally important when choosing a pressure washer. PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) refers to the amount of cleaning pressure that the unit can produce. GPM (Gallons per Minute) is the amount of water that is coming from the unit. Cleaning Units (CU) is the result of multiplying the PSI by the GPM. Cleaning units gives the customer a measure of unit performance (efficiency) to compare one unit to another. Cleaning units is calculated by multiplying PSI and GPM.

    Concrete cleaning is as much protection as it is aesthetic. Pressure washing concrete removes built-up dirt and grime. Pressure washing and cleaning concrete can also help prevent a slippery surface. Concrete can become a breeding ground for mildew. This is especially important around swimming pools, fountains, and ponds.

    Any surface should and can be protected from many different environmental damages and man-made spills. Over time, asphalt surfaces tend to dull due to exposure to UV rays and acid rain. Also, spills such as oil, gasoline, automotive fluids, rust, food and cleaning chemicals can penetrate into the surface making these substances more difficult to remove.

    Compared to brick sand, polymeric sand ensures less shifting, less weeds, and less water washout. Unlike brick sand, it has an adhesive quality. When properly used, this stops the seepage of water below the bricks. A dryer base is less susceptible to shifting or settling under heavy traffic and loads. Although it costs more than brick sand, polymeric sand keeps your interlocking stone project looking great for years to come.

    Interlocking stones are individual precast concrete units they are produced on specially designed paving stone machines. This specialized manufacturing process ensures an exacting quality-controlled environment that produces pavers of higher strength and durability than normal concrete.

    Interlocking stones are placed on one inch of bedding sand over a compacted aggregate base. The thickness of the base will vary depending on its application. The stones are retained using edge restraints. Commonly used edge restraints include concrete curbing, plastic edge restraints, aluminum edge restraints, and concrete slurry mixes.

    Once the stones are placed and restrained the compaction process may begin. They are compacted while fine masonry sand is swept into the joints. The compaction process may take 3 or 4 passes before full interlock is achieved. Upon completion of this compaction process, the area is ready for immediate use. Unlike asphalt and concrete, no curing or setting time is required for interlocking concrete paving stones.

    Interlocking concrete paving stones are used at airports, container facilities, railway container facilities, municipality streets, plazas, parks, driveways, walkways and patios. They are the perfect solution for almost any applications because of their high quality, aesthetic value, and lower life cycle cost in comparison to asphalt or concrete.

    Sealing a driveway/walkway not only extends its service life, but it also improves the appearance of plain or a decorative concrete driveway by eliminating any unwanted intrusions into the pores of the concrete. Most seal coatings protect your driveway colour from fading. If you live in an area with freeze-thaw conditions, a sealer should always be used on concrete to prevent moisture absorption.

    Plus, sealants make cleaning oil and other fluids that leak from your vehicle easier because liquid can not seep into the tiny pores in your driveway. Your concrete will be protected from moisture absorption, mold, mildew, exposure to chemicals, grease stains and oil stains. Sealing your concrete every two to three years will keep your driveway in tip-top shape! Your concrete driveway or decorative stamped concrete will look great, no matter how old it is.

    Because concrete is very porous, it can really absorb liquid. In freeze-thaw areas, the expansion of liquids creates cracks that can destroy the surface of unsealed concrete. Moisture that penetrates concrete can freeze and thaw repeatedly, causing it to shift and crack.

    This can also lead to mold and mildew buildup. Chemicals like oil, salt, and fertilizer can discolour and damage unsealed concrete. Oil-spill and stains can create lasting damage to unsealed concrete. Oxidation from the sun will down the concrete, causing chips and flakes on the top surface.

    Yes. It is important to fix cracks in your driveway before sealing. Even for minor cracks, it is important to provide a good, stable foundation before applying a sealer.

    Most acrylic-resin sealers and some penetrating sealers can be applied as soon as new concrete can withstand the weight of the installer. Other reactive penetrating sealers and high-performing coatings should be applied only after the concrete is fully cured. This is usually about 28 days. Temperature is also important. It is best to wait until the weather is above 65 degrees Fahrenheit to seal your concrete.

    Penetrating sealers will last the longest, about 20 years or longer. That is because the surface is penetrated with this sealer and it will only sear away if the surface of the concrete wears away. Epoxy and urethane sealers have a similar performance and will last between 5 to 20 years, depending on traffic exposure. Acrylic-resin sealers only last between 1-3 years but are also the cheapest.

    For stamped concrete driveways, a good rule of thumb to follow is every 2 to three years. The constant use of salt by the municipalities as a de-icer guarantees that salt, concrete’s number one enemy, will get tracked on to your driveway. Salt will attack and wear out the sealer prematurely, especially compared to an area that does not receive salt. For stamped concrete patio’s, which will likely never see salt, sealing every 3 to 4 years should be more than sufficient.

    Stamped concrete is a unique product, in that, it is manufactured and placed on-site at the same time. It takes an immense amount of skill and craftsmanship to properly place and finish. Even then, however, there are factors that have nothing to do with the ability and skill of the installer which will still have a significant impact on the long-term durability of the concrete. It takes 28 days for concrete to fully cure and gain 200% of its strength.
